From the Man Cave: 10 Rules Ladies Must Follow on Super Bowl Sunday

Jan 30, 2013 at 6:00am by Vanessa Lachey

I’m a major sports fan, and with Super Bowl coming up on Sunday, I wanted to dedicate some posts to helping out the ladies getting ready for the big game!  I figured I’d start with Super Bowl 101: What NOT to do during the game.  I asked Nick for help on this one, to get a man’s perspective and provide some good insight for all my girls out there reading this. So, from Nick’s man cave… Here are his 10 rules to follow at your Super Bowl party this Sunday:

  1. Do NOT comment on the players’ uniforms.
  2. Do NOT hate on the cheerleaders.
  3. Do NOT comment on the cheerleaders’ uniforms.
  4. Do NOT try and diagnose what went wrong with the play…even if your dad was a football coach.
  5. Do NOT show up in a pink football jersey (So cliché! Haha).
  6. Do NOT talk trash FOR your date or significant other.
  7. Do NOT talk on your cellphone about the latest episode of Project Runway during the game.
  8. Do NOT talk about the football player(s) you've slept with/dated.
  9. Do NOT question or comment on the product Troy Polamalu and Clay Matthews use on their hair.
  10. NEVER ask if ANY of the food is fat free! It's a football game, not a fashion show.

Ladies, which of these rules will be the hardest for you to follow?  Does your man have any he’d like to add?

Let me know in the comments below!

Xx Vanessa

Ps.  Get ready for tomorrow’s post about Super Bowl style… Can’t wait!

I agree MPhelps! That would be a great rule to break. :)

Another rule could be: Never root for the team that knocked your favorite team out of the playoffs.

This year there is NO WAY I'm rooting for the Ravens, they not only knocked out my favorite team (Colts) but they knocked out my 2nd favorite team once my team was out (Denver) AND my husband's favorite team (Patriots). No one in our house is rooting for them! I personally don't even think they should have made it to the Super bowl. Anyway, my husband and I are both big football fans and will be rooting for the 49ers with all our heart! Football season is the best time of year in our house, a little stressful with him being a Pat's fan and me a Colt's fan but fun none the less. Enjoy the Super Bowl!

Everyone is entitled to an opinion so not bothered by nicks list. I do prefer watching sports with others who are true sports fans so I get the spirit of the list. Actually I strongly agree with #10. I will watch the game even though I'm still bitter about my GMEN's season so to answer your questions:
      1. I don't do any of these so won't find it hard at all to follow these "rules". Have to say, #4 applies to guys too.
      2. My hubby pretty much has only one "rule", no talking unless it's about the game. (also my "rule")

      Enjoy the game...and the commercials!

Vanessa - I love you and Nick but c'mon with the list of things LADIES shouldn't do during the Super Bowl. I'm sure your intentions were to be lighthearted and timely but this might as well be straight out of the 50s. How about things no one should do during the Super Bowl? Or ways to be a party pooper at a Super Bowl party? Why does it have to be taboo for just the ladies?

And for the record, if guys took time during the football season to patiently explain the game and answer all the "dumb" questions their significant others have about the game, they'd probably be surprised at how much fun they could have watching a game together. If you and Nick ever have any daughters, I hope he takes the time to teach them about the game, not just tell them a list of things they can't do while Daddy and Camden are watching football.

Nick, Nick, Nick. I love ya, but that sounded more like cave man talk rather than man cave talk. Guys don't get to make the rules at a Super Bowl party, c'mon!

Don't trash talk? Nick should take some of his own advice! lol. I would think if your Dad is a football coach you know what's going on. Many women know just as much as the guys!

I agree with you Val if your not into Sports just let your man get on with it because pretend interest can just come off as annoying.

As I live in England Football(Soccer)is our main sport but most of Nicks rules still apply. However world cup is a different thing. How do you ladies feel about World Cup is there much interest in the US?

On the same page!! Totally agree!! You get together to watch the sport, not to see what the latest fashion is!! And I, myself and a few ladies are going to the concert in STL, MO June 30th.

Top tip for Vanessa and all woman kind many years ago my Dad sat up all night and watched the superbowl and got drunk. So the next day when my mum went to work she left my Brother who was only a few months old with him all day and my Dad had to deal with dirty nappies and crying on the worlds worst hangover.

So beware Nick and all men that agree with above top 10 lol xx

I would have to agree with Nick & MrsEwens1 above...do NOT try and diagnose what went wrong with the play. No matter how much you know about football!

BTW - just bought tickets to "The Package" tour in Philadelphia this summer. Tell Nick cant wait to see the guys back together!!

I liked No: 4 Do NOT try and diagnose what went wrong with the play…even if your dad was a football coach.

Because even if you are confident you know what you are talking about your fella will still look at you like "She really doesn't know what she is talking about" and you will get the "yes ok Dear" lol

These are great - love it! The hardest one for me will be to NOT comment on the player's uniforms. I don't know why I do it, but I do it at every game. Thank you and Nick for the advice :)
