As summer is coming to and end and school is about to start, I thought I’d give you a little end-of-summer inspiration. Sometimes life gets crazy and we get lost in the shuffle, but I always find that when I make it a priority to do something a little special and unique for my family, I never regret it and am ALWAYS glad I took the time to do it. After all, it’s these moments we make that are lasting memories. As cheesy as that sounds, my kids talk about our “moments” all the time! What better way to utilize your backyard than throwing a summer bash or two… or three? You might remember this celebration that I threw for Cinco de Mayo (hint: margaritas were involved!) and I’ve been waiting to share more ideas with you. Sooooo, welcome to the Lachey family backyard camping party!
We went all out for this one… True to the camping theme, we even brought out the cast iron skillet for the perfect cornbread! I’m so excited to share these photos with you because we had so much fun as a family getting to enjoy all of our camping-themed eats and treats and it was so easy! Nick grilled dogs with Cam while Brooklyn and I ate, I mean made s’mores! Haha! Below I’m sharing how you can recreate this backyard camping party, one marshmallow at a time…
When it comes to camping I instantly think of roasting marshmallows over an open fire and sleeping under the stars! This party was pure camping perfection with cute lanterns, Thermos’ filled with sweet sips, outdoor-friendly dinnerware and even a tent pitched in the backyard to relax in. This was the kids’ favorite part because it’s not everyday we pitch a tent. They loved having a “fort” to play in while I was setting up. Of course, it wouldn’t be me if I didn’t include some fresh florals and greenery to add as a centerpiece! I just found some greenery around the yard and an affordable bunch at the grocery store to add some color. After all, we weren’t actually camping so I couldn’t resist styling the table. Plus, this is the time to experiment and play, see what works and doesn’t work. So when you have an actual party or dinner with friends, you have some ideas and experience to pull from. Family will never judge your table (as long as you throw food and treats in front of them! Haha!). When planning your own backyard camping party I recommend either disposable or plastic cutlery and dinnerware as well as colorful placemats and décor to bring out the best of summertime (and make cleanup easy!).
Now this is the fun part! Camping food means hot dogs and gooey s’mores! We went all out: Nick threw some corn on the grill, I mixed up a fresh pitcher of lemonade and we whipped up some homemade cornbread. Yum! Don’t forget the fixings: Be sure to set out mustard, ketchup and other condiments so that the kiddos can load up on all of the good stuff! I have to say that Brooklyn LOVED the hotdogs and Cam enjoyed his s’mores! Happy kids means a happy Mama and Daddy!
As you can probably tell, this was one of our favorite parties to throw this summer! How could I not smile having my whole family together over a delicious backyard meal?
